Boy's Clothes

Before I was a mom to Eli I would hear people talk about how the ratio of baby boy's clothes compared to baby girl's clothes was bad bad bad.

I didn't really pay much attention to it because:
A. I didn't have a baby
B. I wasn't planning on having a baby soon

And also, because when I looked around in stores it seemed like there was plenty of boy clothes. People need to stop their complaining is what I thought.

I'm sure you are well aware of where this story is headed. It's not that there aren't boy's clothes out there, that's that for some reason, all the designers of baby boys clothes got together and decided that no article of boy's clothing shall remain without some sort of text, design, or innuendo towards a sport game or phrase.

I just don't get it. Why can girls have regular plain clothes and boys can have a very cute striped shirt, but it is gratified with unnecessary words?

That's not to be said that I don't like any clothes with writing on them or that there aren't cute boy's clothes. You just have to search harder.

Some of my favorite outfits of Eli's have come from Gap, Old Navy, Gymboree and TJ Maxx.

Two of my very favorite outfits of Eli's have come from She She Made. When we found out we were having a boy I instantly knew I would want cute NY Giants outfit. Luke is a HUGE (obsessed) NY Giants fan and while I wanted Eli to have traditional sports gear I also wanted him to have nice-looking sports gear.

I had an idea in mind and I emailed Ashley at She She Made and she put together something right away. She sent me a picture of it before she sent it and it really was JUST like I had pictured in my mind. I love it so much and even better Luke loves it and wants Eli to wear it every game day but it's still a little big so he has to wait a little bit longer.

I also got this little outfit from She She Made because I'm a sucker for anything with Eli's name on it.
(Eli has his knees bent in this picture, the outfit does fit him and does not cause him to look like a hobbit)
If you have a boy where do you get his clothes? I'm really not a picky girl just want some plain, cute outfits!

And if you are looking for some outfits try the places I named above!

  1. Super cute Giants outfit!

My friend and I were just saying the same thing. Why does all boys clothes have big words or logos splashed all over it. Or Mommy or Daddy phrases. I like them sometimes but really just not a big fan of that every day. I don't think I have anything beyond what you said, Gap, Old Navy, Gymboree and The Children's Place. I also like Kohls, TJMaxx and Ross (you can get most Carter's stuff there for cheaper). Target can be hit or miss too. I think it's made me kind of picky when I try to avoid those things. Wish I had more suggestions, though I'm interested to see what other people have to say.

  2. I also love the Carter and Osh Kosh outlets near me. Or when my S-I-L spoils him with Ralph Lauren stuff (which I just cannot fathom spending the money on). But, yes, the 2 wracks of boys clothes to the entire department dedicated to girls is just WRONG. Eli looks so cute in his outfit!

  3. I totally agree with you on this! Why are there always words, stupid phrases, or a giant football on all boys things? It drives me crazy. I shop at the same places you mentioned, plus The Children's Place, Target, and even Walmart sometimes. I've gotten to the point where, if I'm anywhere, and I see something I like, I just get it, because they are few and far between! I like the Children's Place, mostly during summer, because they have super cute plaid shorts in tons of colors that you can just pair with a plain tee or polo. It kind of makes up for his lack of cute shirts.

  4. Target and Old Navy are my go-tos...although I do MOST of the clothes shopping for my boys at consignment sales twice a year. It's way, way cheaper and you see all kinds of stuff since so many different people contribute.

  5. I have a lot of the same issues. I don't mind some writing but sheesh must it be on everything? I also like boys to look like boys . . . if you know what I mean. I've gotten a lot from old navy and baby gap. And for playclothes I shop at Target.

  6. I love the baby Ralph Lauren line because it never has anything goofy on it. And it's just so preciously adorable! Pricey, but I recently scored some cute RL polos for Levi at TJ Maxx at half the price. And y'all have that RL outlet with lots of cute goodies! :)
Children's Place has a lot of stuff without animals or words. And that new Crazy 8 store, too. Eli is just so CUTE!!!

  7. So true about boys clothes! We got all of our baby clothes from friends or used off craigslist, etc. I rarely buy anything in the store, so we just don't pay much attention to what our baby wears. Right now I'm more impressed if something is soft, comfortable, and functional! I'm sure if and when I have a girl this will all go out the window though :)

  8. I love Kohl's. I found cute Carter's rompers and another brand that I can't remember for summer clothes. I haven't checked out their fall/winter clothes yet, but I love that they have great sales and coupons!

  9. A store I didn't know about is Crazy 8. It's a chain like Gymboree or Children's Place, but I hadn't seen it until I visited my sister in Georgia. Anyway, they have some stuff with words, but I like their selection & it's affordable. :)

  11. Amen! My husband is so tired of hearing me complain about boys clothes selection but I'm sorry K is not going to where an outfit that says "daddy's bowling buddy" or whatever. I love etsy, target sometimes has cute finds. We also just got a Crazy 8 store here. They have cute stuff. Affordable and very mixy matchy so anew different piece can make lots of outfits. Love that NY Giants jonjon.

  12. I hate clothes with words. I have a two word limit. Like "Rock Star" is acceptable, but "Daddy's Little Helper" not acceptable. JcPenney has some cute stuff, and sometimes I get the $10 off a purchase of $10 or more, so basically you can get a free outfit. Marshall's is also a go to spot for me.

  13. I have a little girl so I don't know firsthand but I've heard from all my mom friends (who ALL have boys) that it's hard to find cute clothes. I've found some very cute gifts for their boys at the Ralph Lauren/Polo outlet. Their things are always classic & cute and without writing. If you don't have an outlet near you, I've also found the Polo baby clothes at Macy's - often on sale for a good price.

  14. I am cracking up outloud that you said hobbit! Hilarious.
And I love him in that outfit so much!!!!
I've already explained on twitter how much a loathe stupid text on boy clothes. They can't leave well enough alone. This is why I love mini Boden. Cute stripes and appliqués/screenprints, no words!
Thanks for mentioning SheShe Made. Look forward to dressing that adorable Eli in the future!

  16. I have a 2 year old and am a stickler about clothing with sports, animals, and ridiculous sayings. I have had luck at Gap, Old Navy, and J. Crew. Target and Children's Place at times. I sell all of my children's clothes at The Children's Closet off of Harvard. I stopped in today and found a ton of cute winter stuff for both of my kids.

  17. Ok, write these down. You're going to want to kiss me on the mouth later! Don't forget about Janie & Jack, Hanna Andersson, Mini Boden and Crewcuts (JCrew for tiny yuppies!) Down with ridiculous sayings, I say! In agreement with you. We boy moms just need to get together and burn it all :)

  18. I'm probably not much help. We get Ethan's clothing at Old Navy, Target, occasionally Gap, Osh Kosh, Carter's, The Children's Place...and occasionally at BRU. You've probably exhausted all of these places. Oh, and we get some cute things at Walmart on rare occasion because things are $2. :)

  19. I found some good summer things and fall things at Kohl's. I like solids instead of words, too.
