Life Lately

Well this week was our first week back to normal......well our new normal.

Last week my mom was here until Wednesday and then Luke's parents were here until the weekend. So we had a full house all week.

So beginning Monday morning of this week it was just me and Eli, our new normal.

I have discovered a couple of things while staying home.

First, the days go by much faster at home then they do at work. I wake up at the same time I did when I went to work (Eli = new alarm clock) but I feel like by the time I blink twice its already 5:00.

We have been fortunate enough to have friends bringing us dinner each night so I haven't had to worry about preparing dinner yet. It will be interesting when I have to start planning a time to cook between nursing. Nursing takes up a lot of time!

Eli and I are still spending most of our time in the house. The pediatrician told me it would be ok to get Eli out, but it still makes me a bit nervous, so for the most part we stay at home. Which has been a bit hard on me.

The day we got home from the hospital I realized I had a bit of the "baby blues" and was feeling very down. I'm doing better in that regards, but there are still days when I feel it coming on and I will start crying for no rhyme or reason. Usually the nights are the hardest. I have found I feel better if I get out at some point in the day, which is hard when you are nursing every 2.5-3 hours.

So usually when Luke gets home I will walk around outside, or we will get in the car and hit up a drive-thru restaurant to get some soda or ice cream or something. It is nice to get out for a bit.

Another thing I've discovered since being home is that there is nothing good on TV during the day.

I mean really, HOW MANY court room shows do we need?!?!? And when did Maury Povich become the new Jerry Springer??

Times have changed.

Luckily we have Netflix hooked up on our xbox so for the past 3 days I have spent most of my nursing time watching past seasons of The Secret Life of the American Teenager. This may very well be the worst TV show to ever grace the TV airwaves, yet I'm completely addicted.

So that is how we spend our days, nursing, watching The Secret Life of the American Teenager, sleeping, nursing, the occasional crying (from both me and Eli) and just getting to know each other.

It has been fun. I'm enjoying every single moment with my little guy, even if I am about to go stir crazy.

A couple of Eli tid bits for me to remember from this week:

Eli is eating every 3 hours, except at night he will go 5 hours. Which has been so great for me. It's amazing what that extra 2 hours of rest at night can do for a momma.

He is very good at nursing and already surpassed his birth weight. He now weighs 6 lbs 10 1/2 ounces and is 21 inches long.

He stays alert a little longer each day. He still sleeps most of the day but the moments when he is awake and alert are so fun.

He loves to just sit and watch Luke play the guitar.

He definitely knows my voice, which just melts my heart.

It is so hard to find clothes to fit him. Pretty much the only thing that he can fit into are preemie clothes. I have so many outfits just waiting for him to wear. But I guess it doesn't matter since we aren't even leaving the house :-)

He is a very hard sleeper and is impossible to wake up. This is frustrating when he falls asleep nursing and I can't get him to wake up, but also nice when he is sleeping in our room and we can still watch TV and he doesn't budge.

No matter how tightly I swaddle he wrestles his arms out. It is hilarious to watch him kick his legs and move his body and work so hard until he gets his arms out.

Some Eli pics:

This chair is where we spend most of our nursing time

He fell asleep while dad played the guitar

Happy weekend!

  1. Awww, he is such a doll Megan. Wish I could hold him and love him.

On another note, I love that yellow and gray bedspread!!

  2. He is so cute!

I have found that getting out of the house is KEY to my sanity. I too was worried about germs, but if you are feeling up for a walk and the weather is okay, the fresh air and vitamin d is so good for my soul! Walks are nice because baby tends to sleep and mom gets exercise/fresh air. The days when we have stayed home all day are HARD. And, I cried today and my baby is 6 weeks old, so you're totally normal!!!

Have you tried the Miracle Blanket for swaddling? I won't use it at night b/c it is too big, but for naps during the day, it is a god send. My little Houdini can't break out of it so it is the only reason I get a shower on most afternoons.

    Have a great weekend!

  3. I love the 2nd to the last photo with his little wrinkly forehead...what an angel baby :) He is just gorgeous.

LEAVE THE HOUSE!! It will do wonders for your baby blues. Start out with short trips and don't be afraid to nurse when you are out if he needs to.

  4. Megan...he is so, so adorable! (I'm sure you have heard that a million and one times!)

So glad everything is going so great! :)

  5. Eli is so precious and adorable!

  6. Megan, he is just SO adorable!! I'm serious, girl! Glad things are going well!

  7. He is absolutely beautiful. I cannot get over how cute he is. I also cannot believe he's already here. I feel like it was just yesterday you were posting weekly updates. :)

I used to love Secret Life (shh) but it is the worst show, ever. What season are you in? I don't want to ruin anything for you but there are some really stupid storylines.

Okay - so the bed Eli is on in the picture where Luke is playing guitar. Guest bedroom? Or your bedroom?

We have the same theme in our master bedroom (kinda, not the quilt but a comforter with the same color scheme) and definitely have that pillow. I love Target.

ha - that last paragraph was by far the stupidest thing I have ever typed to comment on someone's blog. I hope you start feeling better soon. I can't wait to one day meet your precious boy!

    Have a great weekend.

  8. Pretty much ridiculous how cute he is. Congratulations! :)

  9. I want to eat him up, so precious!

  10. I love these new pictures of your little guy! If you ever feel like getting out of the house during the day - totally feel free to drop on by - we're usually here! :) Let me know when you need a meal and I'm there!

  11. He really is THE cutest little guy, Megan!! Very handsome baby. Not all of them are. ;)

  12. Oh.My.Preciousness!!! He is SOOOO adorable!

I'm just getting caught up after being out of town and trying to get back into the swing of work! I know I've got lots of posts to read, but just wanted to tell you how CUTE little Eli is and how AWESOME and AMAZING you look!!! :) :) Girl, you SO do not look like you just had a baby! Like Kelly said ~ you are SOOOOOO skinny!!!

Keep lovin' on that sweet little babe!

  13. Megan! All of these pics are so sweet. Have you tried a Miracle Blanket? I had the best luck with that kind of swaddling blanket. :)

  14. I watched reruns of Friends on repeat during those first few weeks. We had the dvd's and they just stayed in rotation. I almost got to the point where I could not take even one more second of that theme song!!

Have you tried any of the velcro swaddlers? We used an inexpensive one from BRU, Summer Swaddle maybe(?) and it was great. I will sing it's praises.

I had the baby blues BAD after BG. I didn't talk about it much, but it was there. I think getting out is key, even though it can be hard. Let me know if you need anything girl.. I know it can be tough.

  15. He is adorable! So tiny! I love the look on his face in that next to the last pic. Sounds like you are adjusting well. It will continue to get better and more comfortable for you every day. You are blessed!

  16. Your family of 3 is just BEYOND precious!!!! :)

  17. He looks like the simulated newborn baby from the video game "Sims."
Which is a good thing, they were always REALLY cute!!!

  18. Oh Megan, he KILLS MY HEART!!!! He is an absolute living doll. Love!!

  19. PS - getting out of the house helped me a TON, too.

  20. Eli is PRECIOUS! You are blessed! How is daddy doing with him??? Try going out with him but not getting him out of the car. You should go one place every day. Just drive through a fast food place for a drink or drive through the bank or the dry cleaners. By the time you get Eli in the car seat, get out for a few minutes and get back home, it will be time to nurse again, but at least you hhave gotten out for a bit. It will do WONDERS for you. Also, bundle him up and take him for a 10 minute walk in the stroller. The fresh air...even if it's cool, will be great for BOTH of you. That's just a little advice from a NONNY who loves to see new moms happy.

P.S. Congrats to you for sticking with the nursing. I know it's tough and I am proud of you for hanging in there!

  21. So cute!!! :)
And I feel you on the baby blues - I always thought that would never happen to me and I spent the first several weeks so down for no apparent reason. It was so hard for me with the nursing too - I felt like the days flew and I could hardly get anything done! And, getting out definitely helped me overcome the blues. I was nervous about germs too but we kept as sanitary as possible and did little things like you did (went to get ice cream, go for a drive, etc.)....good luck - things will get easier! He's precious!!!! :)

  22. He is so adorable!! I mean what an absolute doll!! You look great!! So happy for you!!! I want to meet him!!!

  23. He is too cute!! And look how skinny you are, girl! I'm jealous! You look great! Glad things are going well w/ sweet little Eli!

  24. OMG! He is precious!!!! What a gift from God.....
You a such a good mama already!
Come by and enter my giveaway. That will give you something to do, while he nurses! Ha!
    xo, misha

  25. I love the next to last pic!!!

  26. 1. TOO CUTE! I'm also surprised he has no hair.

    2. Watch One Life To Live - IT IS AMAZING! :D

  27. He is so beautiful Megan!!! Your posts are so sweet. Thank you for sharing him with us.

    Have a Blessed weekend,

  28. He is just the most beautiful little guy my friend! I love him :-) And you're doing an awesome job as his mommy!!

  29. The first 4-5 weeks are tough. It gets better and easier. And he is just too cute. Take lots and lots of pics - they grow so fast.

  30. OMG, he is so gorgeous. Seriously, I'm getting in my car after work tomorrow... I can keep you company Monday and Tuesday! SO STINKING CUTE!

And you are SO lucky for your heavy sleeper, trust me on this one. One of the babies I nannied for would wake at the sound of a door shutting a mile away. The house had to be SILENT at all times. Horrible!

    Hang in there!!

  31. He is so precious!!

YAY ELI for letting Momma get some sleep at night!!!

  32. He is so sweet and tiny!! I'm happy to hear he's letting you sleep more during the night. I remember the truly is like no other. Take care of yourself. :)

  33. he is so cute!! sounds like you've already got a great little sleeper on hand too :)

  34. Are you going back to work?

Completely random..where is your bedding from?

  35. I love all the pictures! You look fantastic in that picture!

  36. Oh My Goodness! He is so sweet. I have been following your blog for a while now and was over the moon excited for you when you got pregnant!

We are currently 15 weeks and I feel like you are blazing the trail for me...I too am addicted to cheez-its and (in case you havent' tried them)Baked white cheddar cheese puffs, aka a little bite of heaven (and you can eat 36ish for like 160ish calories..I don't have the bag infront of me now but you totally get a lot:)

It's nice to know someone else has been through what I'm begining. The mood swings, the weight gain, and all the amazing moments in between! I believe in you! You can do it.... Jillian
