Thursday I swore of house-hunting forever and that lasted two days. Saturday we spent all day driving around looking at houses. And when I say all day, I mean ALL day.
At one time this was fun and exciting.
Now its just annoying. I told Luke I want to go out of the country for the month and come back and during the time I was gone I want him to have purchased a home, and moved all of our stuff into the home. That plan sounds beautiful to me.
He said if I'm going out of the country he wants to go also. Looks like my plan isn't going to work.
Actually I really don't dislike it as much as I make it sound, I tend to be a little dramatic. While it has been a little exhausting, it has also been a little fun at the same time. And I am thankful that we have the opportunity to purchase a home.
Today was a beautiful hot Oklahoma day so I spent a little bit of time by the pool. I lasted approximately 15 minutes. I am not one of those girls that could lay out for hours. I get really bored and really hot, and I don't like to get in the water. I don't like getting all wet and wrinkly and then you have to get out and dry off. It is all very inconvenient to me.
Anyways, as I was sitting by the pool bored, I realized that usually by this time in the summer I am thoroughly engrossed in a book, and this year I don't have a book to read. I need to find a good book to read. Actually several good books to read, or preferably a good series to read throughout the summer.
So I want to know what your very favorite book is. Preferably fiction. Give me some good summer reading suggestions!!

I don't know if this is your reading-taste or not, but I've really been wanting to read Mommywood by Tori Spelling. Her first book sTori Telling was excellent!
ReplyDeleteglad u enjoyed ur day!! im still working on twilight series!
ReplyDeleteI'm reading the Sookie Stackhouse novels. They're pretty good, You might like them. The author is Charlaine Harris.
ReplyDeleteOh the woes of house hunting. We're not even actively looking, and it's driving me crazy. I can only imagine how much I'll hate it when we're seriously looking.
ReplyDeleteI just started reading Under the Banner of Heaven. It's a true story about a murder in a Mormon community about 20 years ago. I'm really enjoying it. My favorite fiction book is The Time Traveler's Wife. I can't say enough wonderful things about that book!
I just started reading The Unlikely Disciple by Kevin Roose and I CANNOT put it down. It might be worth checking out!
ReplyDeleteuh i stink at laying out too! but i do like to get in the water. i usually spend more time there than laying out because it's SO boring!!
ReplyDeletei'm still reading twilight.. i know i know, but i'm not as into them as most. and i picked up the shack yesterday because i kept hearing such great things..
I just read the book, Certain Girls by Jennifer Weiner. It's fiction though. About a mother and daughter relationship. However, there is a book before that called "GOod in Bed", and it's about this girl who is over weight and her boyfriend is a jerk but then she falls for her weight loss doctor etc. That's the book before Certain Girls. I liked it a lot. I am not sure if its your style or not. It deals with "almost" real life situations.
ReplyDeleteGood luck house hunting!
Have you read the Twilight books?? I'm not sure what you like, but I'd suggest starting there.
ReplyDeleteOtherwise, I'd suggest the books by Chelsea Handler (she's hilarious) or maybe Chasing Harry Winston. Man, I love books!
I recommend every single Harry Potter book, they are AMAZING! If they could make LOST into a book, it would be Harry Potter for me. :) But beware, if you start, you may not come out to see Luke for about 3 months.
ReplyDeleteI have two books for you.
ReplyDeleteThe first is Embrace Me by Lisa Samson. It is so good. I couldn't describe it well. Here is what Amazon says about it:
"Biting and gentle, hard-edged and hopeful . . . a beautiful fable of love and power, hiding and seeking, woundedness and redemption."
Here is what is on the back of the book:
"When a "lizard woman," a self-mutilating preacher, a tattoed monk, and a sleazy lobbyist find themselves in the same North Carolina town one winter, their lives are edging precariously close to disaster . . . and improbably close to grace."
I know it sounds weird, but the book is so good!
The other book is a Christian Chick Lit and a lighter read. It is Perfecting Kate by Tamara Leigh. It is a fun book.
I love reading through everyone's suggestions. My favorite book is Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers. I'm currently reading the Sookie Stackhouse series, but I think I remember you saying that you didn't get into twilight so this might not be the thing for you. My fave author is Sophie Kinsella. All of her books are fantastic. Someone else suggested Chasing Harry Winston--I agree. It's a great summer read!
ReplyDeleteHmmm... Right now I am reading the classic- To Kill a Mockingbird. I don't know if that is what you were looking for, but it is really cute!
ReplyDeleteI could not agree less. House shopping wears you out. It is stressful, but once you buy a house, your happy and glad you looked. Hope you find one that will suit you and Luke!
My all time favorite book is "When Heaven Weeps" by Ted Dekker...
ReplyDeleteBut love Jodi Picoult - Debbie Macomber - Frank Peretti
I love Jodi Picoult. The Harry Potter books are great, too.
ReplyDeleteJodi Picoult is a great author, My favorite book of hers is My Sisters Keeper and Perfect Match.
ReplyDeleteAlso the shopaholic series is a great summer read. I am on the 3rd book of the series and can't put it down. Let us know what you end up reading. I love to hear everyones suggestions.
I really like Angels and Demons (if you like murder mysteries), Twilight series, and for a good old fashion romance read Pride and Prejudice or anything Jane Austen really. The Other Boleyn Girl was good as well. Hope that helps!!!
ReplyDeleteim glad you asked for suggestions bc i need some too! i am planning on spending lots of my time pool side and need a book!
ReplyDeleteKaren Kingsbury is one of my favorite authors. my all time favorite fiction book is redeeming Love by Francine Rivers. Also, read Wisdom hunters by:Randal Authur. This book changed my life in a lot of ways. Let me know if you read any of these.
ReplyDeleteI love reading!
ReplyDeleteIf you want easy, light fiction- please turn to teen lit. You would probably be surprised how grown-up it is. Check out "Before I Die," Anything by Sarah Dessen and if you like mythology and fairy tales- "My Fair-y Godmother" is super fun.
Of course- twilight is always amazing.
Good luck!
I love reading, I look forward to football season so I can read non-stop while Garth watches, ha!
ReplyDeleteI love all books by Emily Griffin and Meg Cabot!
I'm sure you've already read Redeeming Love, right? It's my absolute favorite.
ReplyDeleteI just finished Same Kind of Different As Me and LOVED it-- it's nonfiction, but wonderful.
I am about to finish Mommywood by Tori Spelling (nonfiction again). It's entertaining. That's about all I can say about it.
The Lauren Weisenberger books are great-- Chasing Harry Winston was lots of fun.
I hope this helps!
Have you read the Anne of Green Gables series? There are about 7-8 books and they are a fun, sweet read. The first one is more "kidsy" than the rest.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite book ever is Jane Eyre, other top picks are The Giver (a young adult book set in a futuristic dystopia) and The Screwtape Letters.
ok i just did a search to see if you had read twilight yet, and i saw that you got super bored in the 2nd book and stopped there. i totally get that. BUT, if you can get through that book i SWEAR to you the rest of the series is oh, so good. i promise. the 2nd book was by far my least favorite, but it was a good building block for the rest of the books.
ReplyDeleteor you can just watch the whole felicity season 1 if you wanted :)
I would recommend any book by Dorothea Benton Frank. She writes about places mainly in the lowcountry of South Carolina. They're fiction, but have real places in them. I love a good book set in the South.
ReplyDeleteAlong those same lines, I love Anne Rivers Siddons and Mary Alice Monroe. You should check all three off these authors out!
Also, Sue Monk Kidd is great- she is the one that wrote The Secret Life of Bees and also The Mermaid Chair.
Megan,
ReplyDeleteOne of the best books I've read lately has been "Straight Up" by Lisa Samson. I wrote a semi-review of it on my blog back on April 30th if you want to check it out. On of my fav books is "The Dream Giver" by Bruce Wilkerson. It is GREAT!!! The first part of it is written in parable form, and it is a GREAT life lessons kind of book. Yep it is a keeper.
Hope this helps and happy house hunting!!!
Have a Blessed Monday,
Dawn
I would suggest Jodi Picoult- start with "My Sister's Keeper". It's probably my favorite one of hers, and the movie comes out at the end of the month! :)
ReplyDeleteMy very favorite book is “The Poisonwood Bible” by Barbara Kingsolver.
ReplyDeleteOther favorite fiction books: I Know This Much is True, Nineteen Minutes, The Lovely Bones, and A Thousand Splendid Suns
Some favorite girly books: Little Earthquakes, Falling out of Fashion, The Nanny Diaries
Happy reading!
Handle with Care, Jodi Picoult's new one, is awesome! I just finished it, and I loved it!

ReplyDeleteAnything by Francine Rivers or Lisa Samson is amazing! seriously amazing :-)
and "Same Kind of Different As Me" is a MUST READ - it is SO good and totally life changing! :-)
Little Women by Louisa May Alcott is my very favorite book.I fall in love every time. There is always something that I didn't notice before. Great read and a classic.
ReplyDeletei keep reading history non-fictions like the Founding Brothers and other books around war times, like This Side of Paradise, (well this is fiction based on his life), totally dorky. but i also want to start reading more of the classics (again, you know that we read or were supposed to read from high school=)) some from http://www.cincinnatilibrary.org/booklists/?id=classics, i know still dorky.
